The M1A1/2 Abrams main battle tank is manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). The first M1 tank was produced in 1978, the M1A1 in 1985 and the M1A2 in 1986.

The first M1 Abrams battle tanks were delivered to the US Army in 1980. 3,273 M1 tanks were produced for the US Army. 4,796 M1A1 tanks were built for the US Army, 221 for the US Marines and 880 co-produced with Egypt.

Approximately 77 M1A2 tanks have been built for the US Army, 315 for Saudi Arabia and 218 for Kuwait. For the M1A2 upgrade programme, over 600 M1 Abrams tanks are being upgraded to M1A2 configuration. Deliveries began in 1998.

Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao A.K.A PACMAN

Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao born December 17, 1978), also known as Manny Pacquiao, is a Filipino professional boxer and politician. He is an eight-division world champion, the first boxer in history to win ten world titles in eight different weight divisions. He is also the first boxer in history to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes. He was named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000's by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA). He is also a three-time BWAA and The Ring "Fighter of the Year" in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

Currently, Pacquiao is the WBC Super Welterweight World Champion and WBO Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion). He is also currently rated as the "number one" pound-for-pound best boxer in the world by several sporting news and boxing websites, including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NBC Sports, Yahoo! Sports, Sporting Life and About.com

Aside from boxing, Pacquiao has participated in acting, music recording, and politics. In May 2010, Pacquiao was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, representing the province of Sarangani. He is the only active boxer to become a congressman in the Philippines.

Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978, in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines. He is the son of Rosalio Pacquiao and Dionesia Dapidran-Pacquiao. His parents separated when he was in sixth grade, after his mother discovered that his father was living with another woman. He is the fourth among six siblings: Liza Silvestre-Onding and Domingo Silvestre (from first husband of his mother) and Isidra Pacquiao-Paglinawan, Alberto "Bobby" Pacquiao and Rogelio Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is married to Maria Geraldine "Jinkee" Jamora, and they have four children: Emmanuel Jr. "Jimuel", Michael, Princess, and Queen Elizabeth "Queenie". He resides in his hometown General Santos City, South Cotabato, Philippines. However, as a congressman of lone district of Sarangani, he is officially residing in Kiamba, Sarangani, the hometown of his wife.

Pacquiao is a devout Roman Catholic. Within the ring, he frequently makes the sign of the cross and every time he comes back from a successful fight abroad, he attends a thanksgiving Mass in Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila to kneel and pray.

Pacquiao is also a military reservist with the rank of Sergeant Major for the 15th Ready Reserve Division of the Philippine Army. When younger he had considered becoming a soldier, and was enlisted in the military reserve force as an Army Private.

Chinese New Year or the Chinese Lunar New Year is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. Despite its winter occurrence, in China it is known as "Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name 春节 (Pinyin: Chūn Jié), owing to the difference between Western and traditional Chinese methods for computing the seasons. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: Zhēng Yuè) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual reunion dinner, is known as Chú Xī (除夕) or "Eve of the Passing Year."

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong,^[2] Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,^[3] Taiwan, Vietnam, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of "happiness", "wealth", and "longevity". On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile; forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

Suspected kidnappers arrested in Gen. Santos

On January 10, 2011, at about 5:45 p.m., a group of suspected kidnappers were arrested by the joint elements of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. One unit Mitsubishi L-300 van, colored gray and bearing the Plate Number MBH-138 was interceoted at Barangay Apopong, General Santos City. The suspects on board were armed with high-powered firearms. A total of seven alleged kidnappers who were involved in various kidnapping events in the region were arrested and were then brought to Camp Lira. The group was planning to conduct a kidnapping activity in General Santos City targeting wealthy businessmen. They had established contacts including safe houses and meeting places in the city and surrounding areas.

 

The Investigation and Detection management Branch of the General Santos City Police Office is now in the process of preparing appropriate charges against the arrested suspects for filing in court. The police and military operatives are undertaking continuous discreet follow-up operations and in identifying their possible contacts. Mayor Darlene Magnolia R. Antonino-Custodio lauded the efforts of the operatives of the General Santos City Police Office through PNP City Director Ps/Supt Cedrick Train and the Armed Forces of the Philippines for the arrest of the suspected kidnappers.

Dancing Traffic Enforcers Project

The City Mayor’s Office (CMO) of General Santos, through Assistant City Administrator Glennville Gonzales, launched today its Dancing Traffic Enforcers Project. The program, initiated for the first time in the city, aims to give the riding public a respite from the day’s hassles especially in rush hours. This was also initiated by the CMO to give extra challenge to the traffic enforcers, and as a form of exercise as well. Each traffic enforcer was issued a portable music player (MP3) to use while on road duty.

The launching was held at the Oval Plaza Covered Court during the Flag Raising Ceremonies, and was witnessed by a mesmerized city government officials including a very pleased City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio. The first batch of 14 agile dancing traffic enforcers demonstrated a sample of their moves to the tune of “Beat It” by Michael Jackson. The traffic enforcers were then personally congratulated by Mayor Antonino-Custodio.

The first shift of dancing traffic enforcers was deployed Monday, January 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Regular shift hours will follow on Tuesday starting at 6:00 a.m to 8:00 a.m., and at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..
